ISI Satellite Meeting on Agricultural Statistics

The 'Satellite meeting on Agricultural Statistics' will take place on 13 and 14 August at Joaquim Chissano International Conference Centre in Maputo, Mozambique.

An expert meeting held in October 2008 in Washington concluded that a strategic plan has to be developed that will provide a framework to integrate a core set of agricultural and rural statistics into the national and international statistical systems, identify a suite of methodologies for the data collection, provide a framework for integrating agricultural and rural statistics with the overlapping data requirements of other sectors, and address the need to improve statistical capacity. In the next two years, a programme of conferences is planned to develop and implement this strategic plan. This satellite meeting will be intended to include agricultural statisticians from national statistical offices, ministries of agriculture, and other ministries that cover forestry, fishery, and land and water use statistics. International organizations and researchers involved in economic development will also be invited.
